"the comforting illusion"
(1999)
mixed media, dimensions variable
"the
comforting illusion", designed
and produced for Gallery 5 at Linden Gallery, Melbourne, was a series
of three consecutive installations which were based on ideas present
in this quote. Louisa Bufardeci created three experiential environments
which played with the viewers sense of inner duration
(the
prey)
Wood, mirror and door peeper, 70cm x 175cm x 70cm
(the prey) invited
the viewer to duck into a fake wall partition lined on four sides
with mirrors. Once surrounded by mirrors the viewer is left to
contemplate that sight in that irrecoverable moment
(just
remember this)
Black curtain and wooden supports, 250cm x 175cm x 200cm
(just remember this) offered
a near impossible dense maze of heavy black curtaining in complete
darkness. The disorientating experience was designed to stretch
the experience of time and conjure thoughts of the longest moment
in death.
